Beware fake GTA 6 sites: the $50 'leaked copy' is a trap that drains your wallet and passwords

The closer launch gets, the busier the scammers. Malwarebytes issued a warning on September 3: fake GTA 6 sites are claiming to sell a "leaked copy," when they're really built to drain your crypto wallet and steal your passwords. These sites are still spreading, so don't get caught.

Scam one: the $50 "leaked copy" that empties your wallet

The scammers dress their sites up as GTA 6 fan pages or countdown pages that claim to sell a "leaked" copy for $50 or 1 SOL (about $100).

The pages look convincing enough: a countdown to November 19, a Leonida map. But look closely and there are contradictions and typos.

When you go to pay in crypto, the site nudges you to connect your wallet and sign a transaction. The script does two things:

• For Solana wallets: it checks the balance, then prepares to transfer almost all of it out.
• A roughly 2.4MB script targets seven chains: Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, and Fantom. It either moves coins immediately or grabs approval to move your tokens and NFTs later.

The script also filters visitors by IP, blocking people from 10 CIS countries to avoid being traced by local victims.

Scam two: fake demos push malware that steals your passwords

Another type of fake site offers an Extended Look demo or trial, asking you to download gta6installer.exe. That's an infostealer (the Vidar family) that steals saved passwords, cookies, and login sessions from your browser.

And the rest of the playbook

• Fake "early access" or "VIP early access" offers charging hundreds of dollars in crypto.
• Fake beta keys, fake Android apps, phishing pages for Rockstar Social Club accounts, and copycat piracy sites.

How to protect yourself

• Don't connect a wallet to any site selling a "GTA 6 leak." Real purchases go through Rockstar-authorized stores, and Rockstar never asks you to connect a crypto wallet.
• Before signing anything, read the permission request. Reject anything that transfers close to your full balance or requests ongoing token/NFT access.
• If you already connected, revoke the approvals. Disconnecting the wallet does not cancel permissions you've granted.
• Ignore every "public beta / early access / PC / Android" offer: GTA 6 is set for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version and no public beta.
