GTA6 file size: how much storage you actually need

Rockstar hasn't announced GTA6's install size, and anyone quoting an exact number is guessing. But you can plan around what we already know.
What's certain
- GTA6 is digital in practice: the physical version is a download code, so the whole game lands on your SSD.
- GTA5 has grown past 100GB after years of GTA Online updates, and GTA6 is a much bigger world.
What to expect
A realistic guess: 150GB minimum, and 200GB+ wouldn't surprise me. Don't plan your storage around the low end.
Here's what each console gives you to work with:
| Console | Total SSD | Usable space |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 825GB | ~667GB |
| Xbox Series X | 1TB | ~802GB |
| Xbox Series S | 512GB | ~364GB |
The squeeze is the Series S. A 200GB GTA6 would eat over half its usable space.
Do you need an SSD?
- PS5 with a couple of games installed — probably yes. 667GB disappears fast.
- Xbox Series X — you're fine unless you hoard.
- Xbox Series S — GTA6 alone gets tight, and expansion here is more limited.
On PS5, a compatible NVMe SSD is the cheapest way to stop deleting games every time you want something new.
