GTA6 is reportedly killing 'tap X to sprint' — and not everyone's happy

For two decades, GTA players have mashed a face button to run. According to the September previews, that ends in GTA6 — sprint moves to a left-stick click, and the change is already splitting the fanbase.
This is reported, not an official Rockstar announcement.
What's changing
- The old "tap X / A repeatedly to sprint" is reportedly gone.
- You click the left stick instead, the way a lot of modern games already do it.
Why people care
It sounds trivial, but "tap X to sprint" is muscle memory for a generation of players. Reactions are split:
- Relieved: the old method wrecked thumbs and made the button do double duty.
- Disappointed: some players genuinely liked the rhythm of it, and losing it feels like losing a bit of GTA's DNA.
What it actually means
It's a small control change with a big signal: Rockstar is willing to modernize GTA's feel, even at the cost of nostalgia. If tap-to-sprint is on the table, other old habits probably are too.
Are you glad to see tap-to-sprint go, or is that a step too far?
